Caring for Children

On January 12, 2010, an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. About 300,000 died and another 1 million were left homeless. Already the poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti became even poorer. Recently, cholera has struck Haiti and many have died as a result. But, there is hope for Haiti!

Through your generous gifts to ABWE’s Care for the Children, we have been able to help numerous orphans in Haiti. Personally, I have been to Haiti twice this year. Lord willing, I plan to go back next year. I have seen the orphans and I have seen the devastation that has struck Haiti. I want you to know that we have been able to provide beds to children who had no beds at an orphanage in Haiti. When I witnessed the living conditions that these orphans experienced, it was the worst conditions I had ever seen in my life (and I have been in 22 countries)! Recently, through the gracious and kind gifts of God’s people, like you, we are now in the process of providing 100,000 balanced and nourishing meals for these children. Also, we have been able to help orphans in China in a significant way. All of these children are hearing the gospel on a regular basis and some are responding to the Good News that Jesus Christ loves them, died for them, and rose again for them. Let me tell you about one of them. This junior aged boy spoke to us a week ago and told us how his parents were both killed in a car accident. He was sent to an orphanage where he saw the love of God, heard the gospel, came to faith in Christ, and was later baptized. Now, he is dedicated to helping other children hear about Jesus Christ, even though he lost his own parents.
