Hope in Haiti

When we landed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, it was scorching hot, perhaps 95 degrees.  Little did we know, but there was a hurricane in the area.  That night, heavy winds blew but no damage was done.  The hurricane had passed to the north of Haiti.  However, when we went to tour some Haitian schools and make plans for our Good Soil training for the Haitian school teachers, we discovered that at one school, no children came.  Not one!  Fear of another natural disaster was evident.  You see, only nine months before this, an earthquake hit area and over 250,000 died as a result.  About 1 million were left homeless.  Quite obviously, there was reason for fear.  When we toured the empty school with the principal, the pastor, and several teachers, we saw tents outdoors.  The tents were there for school to be held outside because parents were afraid that another earthquake would happen and they would lose their children.  So, school was held outside.  Again, another good reason to be afraid.

However, I have great hope for Haiti.  You see, we have the opportunity to tell The Story of Hope (ABWE's new curriculum which tells the gospel through chronological Bible teaching) to the children of Haiti.  Right now, God is opening a door wide open for us to go through that will allow us to train others to clearly communicate the gospel story to the children of Haiti.  What great news and what great hope!  God is good all the time and God is bringing hope to the children of Haiti!
