A Significant Battle to Fight
Over the last year, a vigorous fight over health care has emerged as a concern that faces all of us. No matter what your age or what your health needs are, we are all looking at health care differently than we did one year ago. My son called me the other day and was somewhat distressed over the recent debate over health care. My point in saying all of this is not to “talk politics” in my newsletter. It is to say to you as I said to my son, we have bigger battles to fight than health care. That is not to say that I am not concerned about health care, I am! But consider these battles that face children around the world and go to God with these vital concerns.· In many parts of the world, children are viewed as property and have no value. Therefore, teaching children is not important because they have no value. That is a significant battle to fight!· In many parts of the world, only women teach children. Men have jobs and do the “sports” and “politics” thing, but would not think of teaching children. Men are supposed to be the leaders of the home, but many have chosen to delegate that responsibility to the church, school, or someone else. That is a significant battle to fight!· In many parts of the world, human trafficking of children is rampant. Kids are sold as slaves so that evil desires can be gratified. Children lose their innocence and are literally slaves in this wicked scheme. That is a significant battle to fight!· In many parts of the world, children’s ministry is viewed as ancillary, a subordinate “side show” to big church. However, with over 75% of the world coming to Christ between ages 4 and 14, maybe this ministry ought to be center stage. That is a significant battle to fight!Yes, there are battles to fight and we must keep eternity in view of which things we choose to get “worked up” over. Maybe children’s ministry will never make it on “The O’Reilly Factor” but children ought to be “talking points” or heartfelt concerns for all of us. Single or married, young or old
